Two options
Dedicated socket: its own circuit from the consumer unit, with protection and a weatherproof box, for the portable charger that comes with many cars. The most affordable option and enough for most hybrids.
Wall charger: more power and control features, with load management so you don't exceed your contracted power.
Either way, the installation is documented under instruction ITC-BT-52 of the low-voltage regulations.
Before installing
- I measure real consumption to see how much power is free.
- I check the earthing and the RCD type the charging needs.
- I size the circuit for the distance from the consumer unit to the garage.
Income tax deduction
Installing a charging point qualifies for a 15% income tax (IRPF) deduction on up to €4,000, for amounts paid until 31 December 2026. I give you the invoice and documents you need to claim it.

Do I need a wall charger for a hybrid?
Not always. Many plug-in hybrids charge overnight with their portable charger on a well-protected dedicated socket.
